Hello everyone,
Years ago, I decided that I was going to write a cookbook. In fact, I started during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2019, but my computer went on the fritz (or maybe it was me, who knows) and all my work got erased! Yikes! Obviously, a very frustrating moment, so I decided to put it on the backburner for a while. But of course, I am not one to give up easily.. Finally, I woke up one day and decided that before I turned 50 (1 year and counting down starting today, April 6th), I had to get it done. Low and behold, I have been writing and translating, cooking and baking (repeat... repeat) for the last year. However, I still worried that I would never finish. Then, I was given a great idea.
The other day I was talking to a girl from Italy at the gym and she said she started a cooking blog, and I thought, "Hey what a great idea!" Hence, here I am, starting my blog.
I love cooking, and I love eating well, so this is the perfect opportunity to share what I do in my kitchen. I am dedicating this to my children, Lucas (15) and Ian (13) because they are the ones who benefit the most from my cooking, and believe me, they can eat.
What sparked my interest in cooking:
The first recipe I learned was my Grandmother´s Italian-style meatballs and homemade tomato sauce. I remember being in the kitchen for hours and writing down everything she did. I was about 10 years old at that time. She used fresh tomatoes (and canned), meat, sausages, lots of onions and garlic, fresh parsley, and a lot of patience! Of course, my versión of her sauce is a bit lighter given our expertise on healthy eating today, but it is just as delicious. From that moment on, I started to read recipes and pay attention to my mother in the kitchen.
Over the years, wherever I have traveled, I have gathered recipes and ideas and have experimented in the kitchen. I have burned, oversalted, undercooked and spilled more than one dish, but in the end, as any teacher or parent would say, "you learn from your mistakes". The saying "try, try again" is also quite apropos for anyone learning to cook.
So, this is my chance to upload easy and tasty recipes in English (and in Spanish when time allows) and share my joy of cooking.
Bon Appetit! Buon appetito! ¡Buenprovecho! Enjoy!!
Lizzie from Lizzie´s Napkins.
